ive recently started developing a personality and an idea of how i want to present my body (kinda). im still having gender and clothes issues but thats for another time (thank god). so far i only have three tattoos; my cross, a cuff of thorns around my bicep connected to my cross, and a mural of joan of arc right above my cuff on my shoulder. growing up religious its not often you hear stories of strong religious women i assume because of capitalism and its ties to sexism. some belive joan was touched by god and others say she was just another deluded woman. i find those ideologies can be used for most women these days. women are touched by god and the universe in such a way that scares men and sometimes other women.
i remember reading a peice of classic literature in my ap lit class called “the yellow wallpaper” its a fanatastic short read and i encourage all of you to read if it you can. the story involved a woman who was trying to claw another woman out of her wallpaper who wasnt really there. it shows images of how this woman was trapped by the patriarchal society she was a part of and set apart from because she was experiencing postpartum depression. joan too was set apart because of quite literally the patriarchy and i see it that so many people have misunderstood her story.
joan of arc was just a girl from the quiet fields of france, hearing whispers from the heavens, saying she was meant for something greater. with a crown of faith and armor too big for her small frame, she rode into war like a dream—young, wild, and touched by god. she lit fires in the hearts of men, turned tides, made kings. but the world doesn’t love a girl who’s too powerful, too holy, too strange. they called her crazy, dressed her in sin, and burned her for believing. still, she rose in legend—saint, martyr, moonlit warrior—forever a tragic song the world wasn’t ready to understand.
